Five January Signings To Keep An Eye On

January is usually one of the most exciting months in European football, as each club is given an opportunity add to their ranks with the opening of the mid-season transfer window.

With millions being spent every year, some of the most interesting and season-saving signings have been made in January but this year has proved to be a different story.

None of the top six clubs in the premier league added a marquee signing to their ranks, with only the loan signing of Gonzalo HiguaĆn to Chelsea being the only transfer to get half excited about.

However, this January window might just set the precedent for the years to come, as some clubs invested in future stars, instead of already made ones but who are they?

Here are five transfers that you all should be keeping an eye on:

Youri Tielemans: AS Monaco to Leicester City (Loan)

The deadline day signing by Leicester City was, in my opinion, the most interesting and lucrative deadline day transfer. With both Spurs and Arsenal chasing the foxes tails on the young Belgian, the club should count themselves lucky that Tielemans choose them.

The 21-year old has been tipped for big things after he made his debut for Anderlecht at the age of 16. He found the back of the net once every six games for his boyhood club before moving onto Monaco two summers ago.

Despite Monaco having an embarrassing season, Tielemans has netted five times in 22 appearances, with only Radamel Falcao scoring more. He already has 14 appearances for Belgium and was part of the squad which finished third last summer in Russia.

The young central midfielder has bags of potential, and if he is able to showcase it for Leicester City then a huge big-money move may be on the cards for the Tielemans in the summer.

Karlan Grant: Charlton Athletic to Huddersfield Town (£2M)

A player who shared an academy with Joe Gomez and Ademola Lookman, Karlan Grant could join the long list of academy graduates from Charlton to move away from the Valley and breakout in the Premier League.

The striker had scored 14 goals this season for the Addicks before moving to Huddersfield and in the season prior he scored 9 goals in 15 games while on loan at Crawley Town.

Karlan has all the credentials to make it in the Premier League as his blistering pace and 6ft stature fits the bill of a modern Premier League striker. He has scored goals in whatever team he has been in, whether it be at academy level, League Two or League One.

The young striker is destined to score goals for the Terriers either this season or next in what looks likely to be in the Championship. At only 21, Karlan has many years in football ahead of him and he may just be a name which we see more often in the Premier League in the seasons to come.

Chris Mepham – Brentford to Bournemouth (£12M)

Chris Mepham is another young player who looks destined to make the step up to the Premier League.  After making his debut for Brentford in 2017, the center half had already notched up 48 appearances for the Bees before his departure.

At only the age of 21, Mepham is now a cemented member of Ryan Giggs’ Welsh team and you can see why. Standing at 6ft3 tall, the towering defender is a shade of what John Stones was when he first joined Everton. He carries himself well and is as confident on the ball as any other player on the pitch.

The Welsh prodigy should slip seamlessly into the Bournemouth’s set up and will only continue to improve under Eddie Howe, a manager who is renowned for developing young players.

Miguel Almiron – Atlanta United to Newcastle (£20M)

If someone was to tell you last week that Newcastle would beat Manchester City and do the biggest deal of Deadline Day, you would have laughed.

However, both are now true thanks to a Matt Ritchie penalty and the signing of Miguel Almiron for a record-breaking fee.

The Paraguayan has featured in the MLS team of the year two seasons in a row and scored 13 goals during Atlanta’s title-winning season last campaign.

The 26-year old will be looking to inject some creativity into a side that has struggled for goals this season and being a player that breathes assists as well as goals, you can expect him to become a star on Tyneside and probably become the MLS’s finest ever export.

Michy Batshauyi – Chelsea to Crystal Palace (Loan)

A name which most of you have probably heard of. Once upon a time, Michy Batshauyi was one of Europe’s most wanted strikers after he scored 26 goals in one and half seasons for Marseille.

Since his £30M move to Chelsea, the striker has been loaned out to Dortmund, Valencia and now Crystal Palace. Known as the Batman,  the striker seems to be a temperamental character which made him a hero in the Bundesliga but a villain in La Liga, leaving many question marks to hang over his head.

However, the striker is a natural goal scorer and with now being 25-years of age, he will be looking to join the likes of Lukaku, Salah and Kevin De Bruyne in becoming the next Chelsea outcast to prove himself elsewhere.
